The first building was built in the second half of the thirteenth century. Soon after the location of the city as a so-called “Kameraus.”  The new building was built between 1532 – 1534 and was expanded in the style of the Renaissance by Jana Baptystę di Quadro in 1563 . April 5, 1778 here celebrated the first 200 years of service breaks in Poznan Brethren .

In 1890 the building was demolished, as long Non-renovated building threatened to collapse. In its place was built the neo-Renaissance New Town Hall , which served as the seat of city authorities. It was heavily damaged during World War II ( 1945 ).

In the years 1950 – 1960 was rebuilt in the place of the building, designed by the weight of Zbigniew Zielinski and Regina Pawulanki , developed on the basis of the preserved lithography , as well as numerous photos made by the Prussians in 1895 during demolition.

Initially, the balance was to be the seat of the Western Institute , but scholars protested against working in a common area on the first floor , therefore the premises coincided with the Office for Civil Status . The last renovation was completed in 2002 year.
