Victoire Bridge, Grand-Bassam, Ivory Coast
The Pont de la Victoire is an important bridge in the Ivory Coast city of Grand Bassam, and is one of the coastal city’s tourist highlights. The bridge was constructed as a memorial to a special event in Ivorian history when, in 1949, women activists rescued a group of their fellow nationalists, helping to speed the creation of the Ivorian nation.
