Piazza Navona is a public open space in Rome, Italy. It is built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian, built in the 1st century AD, and follows the form of the open space of the stadium.
The most elegant and the most joyous Roman square, built on the ashes of the Stadium of Domitian, the square is still a meeting place for Romans and tourists, who stay in the many outdoor cafes that surround it. Used in antiquity for athletic contests and competitions of various kinds, today the square is home every day street artists, painters and portraitists that within minutes they manage to capture the most characteristic features of the model.
