The Frevo Palace is in the Guide Street in the historic center of Recife, also known for Recife Antigo – meeting point for friends, due to the many restaurants and entertainment options: museums, cultural centers, recreational spaces and art galleries. It is one of the main regions representing Recife and Pernambuco culture.

The frevo Palace is a space entirely dedicated to the intangible heritage of Pernambuco culture: the frevo. Rhythm cradling carnivals and color the entire month of February; Not only in Recife, but also in the neighboring city and sister, Olinda. The space, besides functioning as a museum, has a school of dance and music, which aims to propagate the secular rhythm for other generations.

The building, located in front of the Armory Square, has three floors. At the entrance, the visitor feels energetic by the predominance of the color red.

On the ground floor, in addition to the black and white photos of the old carnivals, those who visit Paço take a stroll through the history of Frevo and its historical context, which goes from the 19th century to the present day. The space is not only for tourist visitation, but also a place of research, because it has a multimedia library, in which those interested have access to videos, audios and books.

The first floor is dedicated to dance halls, in which frevo classes are taught, according to the space programming, which can be checked on the Paço do Frevo website. In addition to classrooms, Paço offers production and recording services for frevo-related material.

On the second floor are temporary exhibitions, with works of art, sculptures or paintings, usually produced by regional artists. In addition to exhibiting such works, the space has slate walls, in which visitors can leave their mark and also display videos of frevo and dance orchestras. One of the videos on display, can be seen below: a mix of the choreography of the song “7/11” by singer Beyoncé with frevo.

The third and last floor is a spectacle to the part, where the Pernambuco carnival is exposed in photos and passages of poetry, marchinhas and carnival songs. Besides the beautiful structure, the view from the top of the building contemplates part of the neighborhood of Recife Antigo. Every space on the third floor is covered with photos of the carnivals of different periods, filling the environment with colors. As soon as you enter, you will see the carnival glossary, with regional words referring to the carnival and its meanings.
