Novodevichy Cemetery, Moskva, Russia

Novodevichye cemetery – perhaps the most famous necropolis in Moscow. This is the pantheon of our country, people who created the USSR and the new Russia. It is located in the south-western part of the city, in Khamovniki, on the territory adjoining the Novodevichy Convent .

Originally, the burial was on the territory of the monastery. The modern territory of the Novodevichy cemetery , adjacent to its southern wall, was allocated in 1898. The walls were erected and the plots were planned under the direction of the architect of architecture I. P. Mashkov. Its official opening took place in 1904. The territory expanded twice: in 1949 and in the late 70’s.
