Notre-Dame de France, Le Puy-en-Velay, Auvergne, France

The statue Notre Dame de France watches over the city of Puy en Velay in Haute-Loire.

Built thanks to the melt of 213 guns taken from the Russians during the siege of the city of Sevastopol, the statue was inaugurated in 1860 . Work of the sculptor Jean Marie Bonnassieux , it offers a very pretty panorama on the city and its environment.

The originality of the monumental statue lies in the positioning of the child. Unusual in statuary art, the Virgin carries the Child on her right arm so that he may bless the city without hiding the face of his mother.

Fully restored in 2013, the Virgin has acquired new colors and welcomes visitors into its crown after the climb of 262 steps .
