Chargé d’Affaires a.i. de l’Ukraine auprès de Royaume de Belgique et au Grand-Duché de Luxembourg. The Ukrainian embassy is one of 258 foreign representations in Belgium and one of 174 foreign representations in Brussels.

Political Relations

The Kingdom of Belgium recognized the independence of Ukraine on December 31, 1991. The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on March 10, 1992.

Traditionally, Ukraine and Belgium have friendly relations. Belgium supports the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine as well as its way towards the European integration. Since the start of the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine on February 23, 2014 and the occupation of part of Ukrainian territory, Belgium has consistently supported all phases of restrictive measures imposed by the European Union against the Russian Federation. Belgium allocates humanitarian aid designed for IDPs in Ukraine and contributes to financing the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, Belgium representatives works to the SMM OSCE.

Political dialogue between the two countries is developing constantly. In the framework of the official visit of the 5th President of Ukraine P.Poroshenko to the Kingdom of Belgium (23-24 November, 2017), the bilateral meetings with King of Belgians Filip and the Prime-Minister Ch. Michel were held. On 8 February, 2019 Vice Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Belgium D. Reynders paid a working visit to Ukraine and held a meeting with Minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine P. Klimkin. Within the framework of the visit to Brussels on 25 March 2019, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze had a meeting with Vice Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Belgium D. Reynders.

The last high level meeting was held on 1 September, 2019 in Warsaw, when President of Ukraine V.Zelensky had a meeting with Prime Minister of Belgium Ch.Michel as part of the participation in the memorial events marking the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of Second World War.

Due to the practice, introduced since 2010, in September 2018, the political consultations were held in Ukraine at the level of political directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

On 3 October 2020, the new government of Prime Minister of Belgium, Mr. Alexander De Croo, has officially started to perform its official duties.
