Kunstakademie Düsseldorf

“Art cannot be taught. There are no rules for art; it arises from the human being, who experiences the human being and the world and writes down this experience with pictorial means.”  Norbert Kricke (1973). The focus of the studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy is the free artistic activity of the students in the artistic classes for all courses. This central focus on the work process of all members makes up the special study situation at the academy and essentially determines the working atmosphere. The aim of the artistic studies is to develop your own artistic position, personality and attitude.

Three courses of study are offered at the Düsseldorf Art Academy: the course in Fine Art, the course in Art Teaching (teaching course at grammar schools and comprehensive schools) and the postgraduate course in Architecture. Within these courses, specializations in the extended spectrum of fine arts (painting, sculpture, photography, new media, stage design, etc.) are possible according to the respective class profiles. The courses offered in the field of art-related sciences (with the subjects of art history, philosophy, sociology, education, didactics, etc.) are integrated into the artistic courses.

Apart from the postgraduate course in architecture, there are no postgraduate courses in the artistic subjects. In the art-related sciences there is the possibility of a doctorate.

The Kunstakademie Düsseldorf offers its students very good working conditions in 23 classes led by internationally renowned artists and in the architecture class (supervised by four professors). For this purpose, students have access to well-equipped, artistic and technical facilities (workshops) under the direction of experienced teachers as part of their studies. The course is accompanied by a wide range of courses in art-related sciences
