Grutas da Sassa, Sumbe, Angola

Inside the earth there is a mysterious refuge. A triangular portal opens up to tunnels and galleries to explore within the mountains of Kwanza Sul. The Sassa caves, close to Sumbe, are a tourist spot yet little known but with the potential to make your weekend a different experience.

In the village of Sassa, the view from the top of the hills is imposing. The land lost to view is crossed by a slender stream of water that comes from the interior and advances to the sea of the Sumbe. It is the final respite from the Cambongo River. Small but strong enough to carve the deep landscape of these bands, just less than 15 km from the capital of Kwanza Sul.
