Calais is lace, and lace is fashion! Incidentally, the sponsor of the Cité Dentelle and long-time ambassador of Calais Lace is Chantal Thomass, a designer of luxury lingerie.
The most recent exhibitions at the Cité de la Dentelle et de la Mode (City of Lace and Fashion museum) are clear. The museum aims to place an increasing accent on famous and/or modern designers:Cristobal Balenciaga, Iris Van Herpen, Anne Valérie Hash, On aura tout vu and Lace Effects are the most recent successful exhibitions – others are awaited….
Thus, early 2017, three Taiwanese designers (Apujan, Shao-Yen Chen, Mei-Hei Liu) will be honored with the Expo “Fashion in Taiwan” (28 January-23 April), pending the 2017 Top Expo Hubert de Givenchy (15 June-31 December 2017).
By highlighting innovation in textiles and purposefully giving a place to contemporary design, the Cité de la Dentelle has established its position as a major venue for Fashion.
The local tradition of design within the broad field of textiles and fashion has continued in Calais, and these days it is embodied for example by the talent behind Made in Calais .
