Chinatown, Liverpool

Chinatown is an area of Liverpool that is an ethnic enclave home to the oldest Chinese community in Europe. Located in the south of the city centre, Chinatown has many Chinese businesses, such as Chinese restaurants and supermarkets, and facilities for the Chinese community.

Liverpool has a large colourful multi-cultural population, a high percentage of which is Chinese. Liverpool Chinatown is the first chinatown established in Europe. The city has many reputable Chinese restaurants, Chinese takeaways, a huge selection of Chinese groceries from many Chinese supermarkets. Today, there are around 10,000 Chinese residents living in Liverpool and its surrounding areas. This includes the ever increasing overseas Chinese students from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other parts of Southeast Asia.

Chinese immigrants around the world have always lived in close-knit communities, and the Liverpool Chinese population is no exception. This enables the community to be self-sufficient, whilst maintaining our traditional values, and cultural identity.
