Birmingham China Quarter

The compact Chinese Quarter, or Chinatown, is home to busy streets and alleyways lined with Chinese, Japanese, and Korean eateries and food stores. At its edge, a granite pagoda sits on Holloway Circus. In a courtyard with 4 furnished 19th-century houses, Birmingham Back to Backs museum tells the story of working-class life in the city from 1840 to the 1970s. Birmingham Hippodrome theatre stages ballet and musicals.

The Chinese Quarter of Birmingham, England is located in the city centre’s Southside. It is an area with a predominantly Chinese influence as a result of a concentration of Chinese owned businesses, organisations and social clubs. The area now covers a neighbourhood that includes Hurst Street, Ladywell Walk and Pershore Street. Chinatown is located just five minutes’ walk from New Street Station and is adjacent to the Bullring. Local landmarks include a stone pagoda, donated by a prominent local Chinese business as well as Chinese architectural flourishes around the Arcadian and surrounding area.
