Al-Nilin Mosque, Umm Durman, Sudan

The spherical silver dome of Nilian Mosque defines the site, which got its name from being built on the confluence of the two Niles. The design of interior and exterior look contemporary–it was built it in 1970s. It started as a graduation project of students at the university, and soon their project came to life and became an important religious venue. Note the mosque’s interior, which does not require colmmns inside to support the roof.
