Prince William and Princess Kate Bring Hope, Kindness and Support to Pontypridd’s Flood-Stricken Residents, Businesses and children

The royal couple met with residents who were deeply affected by the devastating flooding caused by Storm Bert and Storm Darragh, which struck the region within two weeks in late 2024. The storms caused significant damage to homes, businesses, and public spaces, leaving many in need of support. The visit offered the Prince and Princess an opportunity to listen to stories of resilience and recovery while expressing their gratitude to those who rallied together to help rebuild the town.

Their first stop was Pontypridd Market, a cherished institution that has been a cornerstone of the community since 1805. Touring the bustling food hall, the couple demonstrated their hands-on approach by helping to prepare and cook a batch of traditional Welsh cakes, delighting locals and emphasizing the market’s role in bringing people together during difficult times.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were greeted by enthusiastic crowds as they carried out a series of joint engagements in Wales today (February 26), ahead of St David’s Day. Princess Kate, continuing her gradual return to public duties following her cancer treatment, joined Prince William in Pontypridd for a heartfelt visit that showcased their commitment to supporting local communities. Princess Kate, was continuing with her slow return to public duties after completed her cancer treatment. This marked her second visit to Wales in two months after she made a solo trip to Wales in January when she visited Ty Hafan children’s hospice based in Sully, Vale of Glamorgan, and the Corgi factory in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire.

The couple engaged with the community members who had worked tirelessly to bring the space back to life, highlighting the garden’s importance as a source of solace, sustainability, and unity for the people of Pontypridd.
