St. Lorenz Church, Nürnberg, Germany
The Lorenzkirche contains not only many beautiful works of art, but is also a work of art as a highly Gothic basilica. Construction began between 1243 and 1315. On the site of today’s Lorenzkirche, there was a chapel dedicated to the “holy Lorenz to the Holy Sepulcher”. At that time, about 10,000 to 15,000 citizens lived in Nuremberg, with a citizen church on the Lorenz side of the city of Nuremberg. Presumably the parish before 1275 independently, but certainly from 1315.
In the years 1439-1477 the Halle Choir was formed. When you enter the church from the rather dark main portal, the light-filled hall choir with its wonderful glass windows attracts all visitors to this day. Since 1522, Andreas Osiander was a preacher at St. Lorenz. In 1524 the Reformation was introduced in Nuremberg.
