The Prince of Wales, and the Duchess of Edinburgh, attend the UK’s most celebrated agricultural event the Royal Cornwall Show
On June 6, 2025, Prince William, the Prince of Wales, and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, attended the Royal Cornwall Show in Wadebridge, marking a significant moment for the event. It was Prince William’s first visit as Duke of Cornwall, while the Duchess returned for the first time since 2014. The Royal Cornwall Show, established in 1793, is one of the UK’s most celebrated agricultural events, drawing tens of thousands of visitors annually to honour Cornwall’s rural traditions and vibrant farming culture.

As Patron and Vice President of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, Prince William and the Duchess demonstrated their deep connection to Cornwall’s agricultural community. Together, they engaged with exhibitors, sampled Cornish pasties, chutneys, gin, and cider, and shared lighthearted moments that endeared them to the crowd. Prince William’s humor and warmth shone through as he jokingly commented on the strength of the gin and his preference for alcoholic cider.

The two royals then divided their focus to champion causes close to their hearts. Prince William met with local charities to discuss mental health challenges in rural areas and presented the Duke of Cornwall Award to celebrate innovative sustainable farming practices. Meanwhile, the Duchess toured livestock exhibits and connected with organisations like LEAF and the Girl Guides, reflecting her passion for youth development and sustainable agriculture.

The Duke presented the Duchy of Cornwall’s award which is given to the farm business that has successfully delivered a sustainable approach to farming, forestry and/or food production within Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly.

Her Royal Highness also visited the Girl Guides, who have played an important role in the running of the Royal Cornwall Show for many years. They work as a messaging team during the Show including delivering the results from livestock 2 rings and other sections to the Show Office.

The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association plays a vital and inspiring role in preserving Cornwall’s agricultural legacy while promoting innovation and sustainability. For over two centuries, it has brought communities together to celebrate the heart of rural life, from nurturing young farmers to advocating for environmental stewardship. Through events like the Royal Cornwall Show, the Association fosters a sense of pride, resilience, and progress in the agricultural sector, ensuring its future for generations to come. This royal visit underscored the enduring commitment of HRH Prince of Wales and the Royal Family to Cornwall’s farming heritage, mental health initiatives, and community spirit, leaving a legacy of optimism and encouragement for all who attended.
