Aksaray Gaziemir Underground City was found by chance at the end of 2006 and cleaned with a work that lasted for about 6 months and opened on June 23, 2007. Unlike other Cappadocian underground cities, it was built not for protection but for accommodation. Hundreds of caravanserais and hundreds of underground cities have been established for being on Cappadocia and Silk Road , but the use of an underground city as a caravanserai has been a first in the world and also in Cappadocia.
