Yangshan Port is a deep water port for container ships located in Hangzhou Bay just to the south of Shanghai. Constructed to provide expanded capacity for the Port of Shanghai, Yangshan Port is built on the small Yangshan Islands, which were expanded via land reclamation to accommodate the port’s facilities. First opened in 2005, Yangshan Port is now the world’s busiest container port based on volume. Its primary connection to the mainland is via the Donghai Bridge, a six-lane highway bridge that ranks among the longest in the world.
