White Hill Station, Bermuda Railway

White Hill Station, once a lively stop along the Bermuda Railway, stands today as a quiet echo of Bermuda’s pioneering rail era. Located in Southampton Parish, it formed part of the island’s ambitious railway system that operated from 1931 to 1948, connecting communities from St. George’s to Somerset.
Though the station itself no longer functions as it once did, its legacy lives on through the surrounding Bermuda Railway Trail, which traces the original railway route. Visitors walking or cycling along this scenic path pass through lush greenery, coastal viewpoints, and gentle inclines that once carried passengers across the island.

The railway was an engineering feat for its time, built primarily on trestles and narrow corridors to preserve Bermuda’s delicate landscape. White Hill Station would have been a place of movement and connection, where residents and travellers gathered before continuing their journeys across the island. Today, the area offers a peaceful blend of history and nature, inviting reflection on a transformative chapter in Bermuda’s development. White Hill Station may no longer echo with the sound of trains, but its story remains woven into the island’s landscape, carried forward by every step along the trail.
