West Pier Lighthouse

The original lighthouse built like the harbour in the late 1700s was placed too near the end of the pier so that ships yardarms hit it when negotiating the harbour entrance. Anyone who has sailed from Ramsgate will tell you that the deep water is next to the west pier so you have to sail close to it.
