Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, one of the world’s largest indoor theme parks, has been officially inaugurated.
The leaders of both Abu Dhabi and Dubai gave the vast attraction, built on Yas Island just outside the United Arab Emirates’ capital of Abu Dhabi, a tour Monday ahead of its public opening Wednesday. Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara also was on hand for the inauguration.
Reportedly seven years in the making, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi covers more than 1.6 million square feet, with 29 rides across six worlds, including Gotham City and Metropolis, inspired by the DC Universe.
Other areas include Cartoon Junction, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch, drawing from Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera, and Warner Bros. Plaza, inspired by old Hollywood and the era in which characters like Bugs Bunny and Scooby-Doo were first created.
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is the latest of a slew of theme parks to have opened in the UAE over the past couple of years in a bid to boost the Middle East country’s tourist offerings.
