Vice Admiral Mark Hammond is a distinguished officer in the Royal Australian Navy, currently serving as Chief of Navy. He was appointed to this position in 2022, after a career that has spanned over three decades in the Australian Defence Force. Hammond’s naval career began in 1986 when he enlisted as an Electronics Technician. Later, he pursued officer training, graduating in 1988 from the Royal Australian Naval College.

Hammond is especially known for his expertise in submarine operations. He commanded several submarines, including HMAS Farncomb, and was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross in 2010 for his command and leadership. His experience extends to senior command positions, including serving as Deputy Chief of Navy and Commander of the Australian Fleet, where he oversaw strategic naval operations and defense initiatives.
