Venice Canals

The Venice Canal Historic District is embedded in the residential Venice suburb of Los Angeles, California. The historic district is noteworthy for possessing man-made wetland canals, built in 1905 by developer Abbot Kinney as part of his Venice of America. The Venice Canals can be visited year-round thanks to LA’s mostly mild weather. Even in the dead of summer, the proximity to the ocean and the marine layer overhead help keep the beach community several degrees cooler than its inland neighbors. Spring is the optimal time to visit as plants are in full bloom and baby ducks are plentiful. The Venice Canals are a series of waterways within a residential neighborhood that have extensive scenic walking paths alongside them. The design of the area is remarkably European, featuring an ordered grid layout and well-kept landscaping around the sidewalks by the canals themselves.
