Trier Saint Peter’s Cathedral, Trier, Germany
The High Cathedral of Saint Peter in Trier, or Cathedral of Trier, is a Roman Catholic church in Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is the oldest cathedral in the country.
The Trier Cathedral is not only the oldest church in Germany, but also the oldest building in Germany, which in its 1700-year history served its original purpose as an episcopal church and still serves it today. From its oldest building core, the “square building” from the 4th century to the present of the 21st century, all phases of the history of the building, art and faith of Europe can be traced back.
The cathedral is also an important pilgrimage site. In the fourth century, the mother of the Emperor Constantine, Saint Helena, the tunic of Christ, the Holy Rock, and her pilgrimage to Trier, where he was first shown publicly in 1512 and gave rise to great pilgrimages, Year 2012.
