Tooley Street
The 1861 Tooley Street fire, also called the Great Fire of Tooley Street, started in Cotton’s Wharf on Tooley Street, London, England, on 22 June 1861. The fire lasted for two weeks, and caused £2 million worth of damage. During the fire, James Braidwood, superintendent of the London Fire Engine Establishment, was killed.
Nice to sit next to river Thames and eat lunch or just wander up the street or along the waterfront Tooley Street is a road in central and south London connecting London Bridge to St Saviour’s Dock; it runs past Tower Bridge on the Southwark/Bermondsey side of the River Thames, and forms part of the A200 road. TooleyStreet home to The London Dungeon (and the enormous queues which gather outside every day), Hays Galleria (a very small shopping and food area which isn’t terribly exciting for tourist), and some cool local restaurants (the best of which is Suchards, a tiny Thai place).
