Thunderbird Stadium
Thunderbird Stadium, located at 6288 Stadium Road on the University of British Columbia (UBC) campus in Vancouver, is an open-air facility primarily used for soccer, football, and rugby. Opened on October 7, 1967, the stadium features a seating capacity of 3,500 in the main grandstand, with the ability to accommodate up to 12,000 spectators using the surrounding grass embankments. The field surface is PolyTan turf, suitable for various sports and events.
Over the years, Thunderbird Stadium has hosted numerous sporting events, including Canadian Rugby international matches and the B.C. High School Rugby Championships. It has also been a venue for cultural events and concerts, such as Ozzfest, Lilith Fair, and Lollapalooza. However, with the installation of artificial turf in 2010, concerts are no longer permitted to preserve the field’s condition.
