The World Turned Upside Down

The World Turned Upside Down is a sculpture by Mark Wallinger located outside the London School of Economics (LSE). The sculpture is a 13-foot (4-meter) inverted globe that shows Antarctica at the top and most landmasses in the bottom hemisphere. The place names on the globe are rebranded to be read from the new direction.

The sculpture was installed in 2019 and was created to reflect the LSE’s commitment to tackling global challenges and to encourage students, teachers, and researchers to see things creatively. The sculpture is based on a United Nations-endorsed map
