The National Piping Centre

We serve as a national and international centre of excellence for the instrument and its music. We offer world class bagpipe education, the finest Scottish food and beautiful bedrooms, as well as a large event space ideal for weddings and our Museum of Piping which features treasures of the piping world. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Glasgow’s Cowcaddens district, The National Piping Centre stands as a beacon for enthusiasts of Scotland’s iconic bagpipe tradition. Housed within a beautifully restored 1870s Tuscan-style church, this institution has evolved into a multifaceted hub since its founding in 1996, dedicated to preserving and promoting the art of piping through education, performance, and cultural immersion. Whether you’re a budding musician or a curious visitor, the centre’s welcoming atmosphere invites you to connect with centuries of melodic heritage in a city alive with artistic energy.

At its core, the centre excels in piping education, offering everything from beginner “come and try” sessions to advanced tuition in Great Highland Bagpipes, Scottish smallpipes, and even Irish uilleann pipes. Following its 2018 merger with the historic College of Piping, it expanded its footprint to include the College’s West End building on Otago Street, solidifying its status as Scotland’s premier academy for pipers of all ages and skill levels. Here, under the guidance of world-class instructors, students not only master technique but also delve into the instrument’s role in Scottish history, from battlefield laments to modern competitions, fostering a deep appreciation that echoes through generations.

Beyond the classrooms, The National Piping Centre pulses with life through its Museum of Piping, where artifacts spanning 300 years—from 18th-century Scottish sets to rare European variants—paint a vivid tapestry of innovation and tradition. Complementing this is the charming Pipers’ Tryst Restaurant, serving hearty Scottish fare amid live piping performances, and elegant venues perfect for weddings or cultural events. As home to festivals like Piping Live! and the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland, the centre ensures the skirl of the pipes remains a living symphony, enriching lives and inviting the world to join in the timeless dance of sound and story.
