National Museum in Warsaw, founded in 1862 as the Museum of Fine Arts, one of the oldest art museums in Poland. After regaining independence in 1918, the National Museum found an important place in the plans of the new state and its capital – Warsaw. Modernist building, seat of the museum, built in the years 1927-1938. Today, collections of the National Museum in Warsaw count approx. 830 thousand. works of Polish and world art from antiquity to the present day, and include painting, sculpture, drawings and engravings, photographs, coins, and applied art and design. The museum has four divisions: Poster Museum, the Museum of Sculpture. Xawery Dunikowskiego Królikarnia, the Museum of Design in Otwock Wielki and Museum in Nieborów and Arkadia.
