The medieval city, Eze, Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur, France

Eze is located between Nice and Monaco and is easily reached from either city. It is 18 minutes from Monaco, and 25 minutes from Nice, which has an international airport.

The Medieval Village of Eze in France is perched on a rock 1,400 feet above sea level. The village surrounds the ruins of a 12th-century castle. The Medieval Village of Eze has been shaped by the Romans, Moors and the House of Savoy. The village was built on top of the rocky outcrop for security reasons, and its stunning views over the Mediterranean Sea; but in earlier days it was a strategic location for detecting the ever problematic pirates who raided the country time and time again. The walls which were erected in the twelfth century were dismantled in 1706 by order of Louis XIV.
