The dying lion of Lucerne, Luzern, Switzerland

“The dying lion of Lucerne” is one of the most famous monuments in the world. It was carved in the natural rock to commemorate the heroic death of the Swiss fallen in the Tuileries in 1792. The American writer Mark Twain raised “the lions of Lucerne to the saddest and most moving piece of stone in the world”.
