The Danish Railway Museum, Odense, Southern Denmark, Denmark

In the middle of Odense, just off the railway station, the museum houses an authentic roundhouse building from 1954. Here you can experience the history of the railway in Denmark up close. We have 21 tracks with iconic locomotives and carts. Take a peek into the royal wagons, experience 1st class travel and see Denmark’s oldest working steam engine from 1868.

You have access to many of the museum’s locomotives and carts. You can sit on the wooden seats in the two-storey Klampenborg wagon, stand in the cab on the steam locomotive from 1954 and enter the postage wagon. You can also visit exhibitions about H.C.

Andersen’s train travel and rail safety. Or experience the Coupe of Dreams, which is a poetic and sensual exhibition about Interrail and Wagons-Lits, where staged environments and coupes tell the story of the Dane’s train journeys to foreign destinations.

Especially for the kids

The big locomotives fascinate children of all ages. You may touch, play and explore our many cars and locomotives. The smallest guests will love the Children’s Train Station, which is a children’s railway station. Outdoors, we have a new, large learn and play area with a huge steam locomotive and a water tower from which you can slide.

Every day you can take a ride on our mini train, either inside or out. Outdoors we have a brand new mini train plant, staged with child-sized historical railway environments. You start the trip at Copenhagen Central Station. Along the way, you drive over the old Little Belt Bridge, through a Great Belt Ferry and a small railway town. The mini trains are modeled for real train such as the MY locomotive and the MA jet train.

All activities are free once the entrance fee is paid. Children under 5 years are free of charge.
