Newman Brothers at The Coffin Works is a new heritage attraction located on the edge of the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. This grade II* listed factory and its contents tells the story of Newman Brothers, Birmingham’s last coffin-furniture factory who operated from their Fleet Street premises for over 100 years until 1998 when workers laid down their equipment, and walked out of the building for the very last time, leaving everything, including personal belongings behind.
Come and explore this unique piece of history on one of our guided tours and step back in time to experience this important piece of Birmingham’s industrial legacy. We run one guided tour a day at 11am, followed by self-guided entry on the half hour from 12pm to 3pm. Doors open 10.45am and close at 4pm. FRIDAY to SUNDAY. Maximum 10 people per time slot. From March 2022 we will also be opening on THURSDAYS for PRE-BOOKED GUIDED TOURS ONLY. Tours at 11am and 1pm. Doors open at 10.45am.
Thursday tickets must be pre-booked. You have access to the same areas of the museum, the same machinery demonstrations and the knowledge from our fantastic Room Enablers on a self-guided slot as a guided tour, but you can go more at your own pace and interact with the volunteers as much as you like. Please be aware that you will be mixing with other households unless you book the full time slot. All visitors must wear a mask (unless exempt) and social distance throughout.
