A masterpiece of Vauban, a UNESCO world heritage site , a remarkable example of 17th century military architecture stretching over almost 12 hectares, the Citadelle de Besançon is considered one of the most beautiful in France. .
Overlooking more than 100 meters the old town of the capital Comtoise encircled in a meander of the river Doubs, it offers from its ramparts spectacular panoramas. Becoming the first cultural and tourist site of the Center East of France , a unique place, the Citadel now houses three museums labeled “Museums of France”: the Museum of Resistance and Deportation, the Museum Comtois, the Museum and its various animal areas.
