Teatro La Latina

Beatriz Galindo, La Latina, was one of the most outstanding female characters of the Spanish XV century. Together with her husband, she founded the Hospital de la Concepción de Nuestra Señora in 1499. Said hospital will be the training nucleus of what we know today as the La Latina neighborhood. And what better substitute, to continue comforting citizens, than El Teatro de La Latina, one of the most important settings for the representation of comedy and magazine in the history of theater in Madrid throughout the 20th century. It is in this century, when the first cultural building of the place was born, a cinematographer. Years later the building was restored and rebuilt as a theater, although in the Civil War it was again converted into a cinema, dedicated to propaganda films by the Republican side.

In 1962, La Latina will be occupied by the company “ The true comedians of Madrid ”, formed by Juanito Navarro and Lina Morgan. In 1983, Lina Morgan, together with her brother José Luis, became owners, making it the reference stage for Madrid Magazine.

It was in 2008 when Pentación Espectacles rented the space to the actress and businesswoman and negotiations began for the acquisition of the iconic theater located in one of the most popular areas of the city, cultural and leisure reference.

In 2010 the ownership of the theater became the property of the Focus-Penta company, formed by the Catalan company Focus and the Madrid producer Pentación, that currently have placed the Teatro La Latina among the most important on the Spanish scene.
