Tarkine Forest Adventures Dismal Swamp, Tasmania, Australia
Tarkine Forest Adventures is an eco-tourism centre in Tasmania’s north-west. Located in the largest sink-hole in the southern hemisphere Dismal Swamp is home to a natural blackwood forest believed to be the only one in the world.
Formed over thousands of years by dissolving dolomite, the sinkhole is 40 metres deep and home to some of the world’s most unique flora and fauna.
You can view the forest from a walkway suspended over the treetops, stroll along to discover the untouched, ancient environment, or experience the exhilarating 110-metre slide to the swamp floor – be warned though, it’s not for the faint of heart!
Perched on the very edge of the sinkhole is the Visitors’ Centre, where you can enjoy a fine meal of Tasmanian produce, view the forest interpretation centre or purchase locally made products.
