Tapajós National Forest, Santarem, State of Para, Brazil

The Tapajós National Forest is an important natural conservation unit located in the Amazon, more precisely on the banks of the Tapajós River, in the state of Pará.

Created in 1974, it is the federal conservation unit in the category of national forest that most houses scientific research in the country – 65 surveys in 2013 (SISBIO, 2014).

With approximately 527.000 hectares – more than 160 kilometers of beaches – the unit presents great diversity of landscapes: rivers, lakes, wetlands, terra firme, hills, plateaus, forest, fields, açaizais, etc …

The heavily preserved forest cover, the Tapajós River with its warm and green waters, and the region’s enormous scenic beauty make the Tapajós National Forest one of the most visited conservation units in the northern region of Brazil.
