Tainan Park, North District, Tainan City, Taiwán

Tainan Park is located in the North District of Tainan City, and was finished in June 17th, 1917. It is the oldest and the largest park in Tainan, which is more than 140,000 squares meters large.

The Da Bei Men(The North Gate) was in the West of the park, and the ancient city walls went through the park in the middle. Swallow Lake, the start of the Wen Yuan River, was at the North of the city walls. People lived in Tai Jian Enclosed Sea would trip on the river and shipped cargos into the old Tainan City. There appeared a market near the North Gate, and people called it “Shi Zi Tou” (The head of the market). People lingered in the park after the market ended in the afternoon. At the Northern side of the Swallow Lake, there was an execution ground, and old trees were standing along the lake. People loved to come to the park all around the year, especially on the Moon Festival. Government even delayed the time of closing the gateway on the Festival for people.
