Sultan III. Mehmed Tomb

The tomb of Mehmet III was built by Architect Dalgic Ahmet Agha and all expenses paid by Ahmet I. The facade of the building coated with marble and tomb has two domes and octagonal floor plan. Entrance decorations such as flowers, landscape pictures, stars display a style beyond the usual decorations of that period.

The final resting place of the sultan Mehmed III, this mausoleum has also the remainings of the sultan`s wifes, sons and daughters. Next to this mausoleum there are more tombs where other Sultans and their families have the final rest.

Mehmed III was Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1595 until his death in 1603. Mehmed was known for ordering the execution of his brothers and leading the army in the Long Turkish war, during which the Ottoman army was victorious at the decisive Battle of Keresztes.
