State Museum of Literature and Art, Yerevan, Armenia

The Museum of Literature and Art named after Yeghishe Charents has been functioning for around 90 years and is one of the largest and most significant cultural centers in the Republic of Armenia.

The history of the museum starts in 1921. Initially established as a section on historiography of the State cultural and historical museum it eventually started functioning only in 1922 after historian Ervand Shahaziz granted Michael Nalbandyan’s, Gabriel Patkanyan’s, Rapayel Patkanyan’s and others’ archives to the museum. Among the granted materials there were also documentaries, old books and so on. Before that, in 1921 due to Hovhannes Tumanyan’s efforts Sayat-Nova’s notebook of his songs was donated to the museum.
