Stadttor

Stadttor  City Gate) is a 20-storey 84 m (276 ft) high-rise building in the Unterbilk neighborhood of Düsseldorf, Germany. The building was designed by Düsseldorf-based architecture firm Petzinka Pink und Partner and completed in 1998. It marks the Southern entrance of Rheinufertunnel, which is also the reason for its parallelogram-shaped floor plan. The building features a 15-story atrium and a double-facade, allowing natural ventilation even on higher elevation floors. The total gross floor area is some 30,000 m2 (320,000 sq ft). From 1999 until 2017, the Stadttor was the seat of the state-chancellery of the Prime ministers of North Rhine-Westphalia.

A symbiosis of the elements glass, steel, wood and stone has succeeded in the Düsseldorf city gate, which in their combination achieve a new quality of simplicity and imposingness, a sense of form and transparency. The Düsseldorf city gate has redefined the symbolic form of the portal: With its exciting and non-conformist architecture, the solitaire encourages the creativity and openness of the 1,000 people who work there. The interaction between architecture and the performance of employees has been sufficiently researched: motivation and teamwork need open, contemporary premises.

Anyone who solves special tasks needs an environment that opens perspectives, that appeals to creativity and stimulates the mind. The Düsseldorf city gate offers a suitable spatial atmosphere In the spatial design, original materials come together to form a whole. Steel pillars as thick as pipelines are deliberately left visible. With their natural surface, they run through the individual floors that rest on them. Their presence is in tension with fine design elements such as floor-to-ceiling beech wood windows and the filigree lights designed for the city gate.
