St John’s Abbey, Unesco Site, Müstair, Switzerland

Twelve centuries of monastic building and art history. The monastery museum is located in the Plantaturm , a residential and escape tower over a thousand years old. Follow the liturgical bell and walk under a knowledgeable guide through a 1200-year monastic and architectural history. The Benedictine nuns of Müstair give you an insight into their monastery and their lives.

Your visit to the museum takes you into the cloister, then you can experience a ” monastery in the monastery ” in the powerful cellar of the Plantaturm and in the three upper floors. They enter the rooms of representation and dwelling-places, sleep-rooms and prayer rooms, as well as the Hohenbalkenzimmer, a delicate room from the baroque period. Admire archaeological finds, historical treasures and jewels from the monastery.
