Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery Murom, Murom, Vladimirskaya oblast, Russia
The Transfiguration Monastery of the city of Murom is the most ancient abode of the Holy Orthodox Russia. (Older than his only Kiev-Pechersk Lavra). The miracle of the Russian land! It stands on the high bank of the Oka River and, like a huge Orthodox ark, floats in the blue of the sky. Two churches, a sacristy, a fraternal building, chapels …
Divine beauty opens from the top of the monastery hill – the vast Murom and Nizhny Novgorod distances. Oka powerfully and majestically carries its waters to the Volga. In these places Ilya Muromets accumulated heroic strength. Here lived Russian holy princes Peter and Fevronia – patrons of the family.
In Orthodox holidays – a large honest people flock to the Savior’s temple to pray. There are rumors of miraculous healings and insights among the people. And the restoration of the monastery itself can be called a miracle. The entire Soviet period in the monastery was a military unit. In one temple there is a gymnasium, in another – a warehouse, on the territory – a military parade ground, three barracks (one in a brotherly building).
1995, on the eve of the 900th anniversary of the Spassky monastery, the renowned academician, custodian of Russian history, D.S. Likhachev appealed to the Patriarch of All Russia Alexy II with a petition for the revival of the most ancient Shrine. His words were heard. It was decided to evict the military unit. After her departure, the chaos and ruin of the shrine were even more glaring.
A young monk, and now the abbot of the monastery O. Kirill (Epifanov) was then given a blessing for the construction of the monastery. In fact, it was necessary to build a new home. There were no people, no money. There was only him and another priest. But the main thing was God’s craft. A miracle happened. And what is surprising, at first, thanks to the efforts of very few people. For 10 years the monastery was reborn. Began to show the beauty of the beauty of the Divine, extraordinary.
