Sokodé, Togo

Sokodé, town, central Togo. A historically important trading centre because of its location in a gap of the Togo Mountains, Sokodé is Togo’s second largest town and a major centre for commercial trade. Industrial activities there include cotton ginning and sugar processing. Sokodé has road links with Kara to the north and Lomé, the national capital, to the south. The Tem, a Muslim people, inhabit the town and surrounding area.
