Södergatan, Malmo, Skane, Sweden
Södergatan is one of Malmö’s oldest two main streets. The other is Västergatan- Adelgatan- Östergatan. Södergatan became the city’s first pedestrian street in 1978 .
Södergatan originally stretched from the western end of the present church street to the southern land gate, that is, at the present Stora Nygatan, and south of this the city’s fortification facilities , which were first demolished in the early 1800s. The northern part of Södergatan disappeared in connection with the construction of Stortorget 1539-42.
