Slangkop Lighthouse

Slangkop Lighthouse is a historic and iconic lighthouse located in the seaside town of Kommetjie, on the Cape Peninsula. This lighthouse stands as a sentinel on the rugged coastline and is a prominent feature in the area, known for its distinctive white and red stripes.

Built in 1914, Slangkop Lighthouse is one of the tallest lighthouses in South Africa, standing at 33 meters (108 feet). It was constructed to guide ships safely along the treacherous coastline and to warn them of the dangerous rocks and strong currents that characterize the area.

The lighthouse offers panoramic views of the surrounding coastline, including the nearby beaches and the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors can enjoy the scenic beauty of the area, with its dramatic cliffs and expansive ocean views. The lighthouse is also a popular spot for photography, capturing its striking appearance against the backdrop of the natural landscape.

While the lighthouse itself is not typically open to the public for tours, the surrounding area is accessible and provides excellent opportunities for coastal walks and exploring the natural beauty of the Cape Peninsula. The nearby Kommetjie Beach is a great place to relax and enjoy the ocean views after a visit to the lighthouse.
