Skansen Historical Site, Tromso, Troms, Norway

Skansen in Tromsø is a fortress and is considered to be the most valuable cultural history facility in the municipality. The settlement volcano is the only visible medieval trail in the city. The fortress has been landed on an artificial island in Tromsø, and towards the country side ran a stream where Nordre Tollbugate is now walking, and then divided into two and formed a moat. The dates of the fortifications vary from the 11th to the 14th century, while the 13th century and Håkon Håkonsson’s church building in Tromsøya have often been mentioned as possible.

The buildings at Skansen are the oldest buildings in Tromsø. They have previously been used as customs offices , housing, schools, epidemic parasites , retirement homes and city museums.
