Siriraj Bimuksthan Museum

Siriraj Bimuksthan Museum is located on the richly-historic area. As a former location of the Rear Palace, it was later developed into Thonburi Railway Station and Siriraj Hospital as well as the Bangkok Noi community. Regarding the vivacity of the lifestyle in this area, Siriraj Hospital has gathered the community’s backgrounds and later exhibited them in the Thonburi Railway Station Building (former). Famous for its conservation purpose and stunning architecture, the building consists of:

First Building: On the first floor, the story of the museum is told in the room “Sirisarn Prapas” via presentation and exhibit items. Moving on to “Siriraj Kattiyapimarn” room, the place glorifies the graciousness and generosity of the Kings and Their families extended to Siriraj Hospital and the country’s medical development. The “Sthanbimuk Mongkolkhet” room meanwhile illustrates the royal biography of Prince Krom Phra Rajawang Bovorn Sthanbimuk with the impressive light-and-sound technique. The “Boran Rajasatra” room showcases different types of weapons from numerous countries. These valuable antiques are donated from the Seniwongse, the family descended from Prince Krom Phra Rajawang Bovorn Sthanbimuk while the room “Kommanakom Banharn” offers 4D movie in which visitors can enjoy the experience of witnessing the story from its first construction, the period of World War II to the present days of Thonburi Railway Station. On the second floor, the first room “Siriraj Buranpawat” presents the history of Siriraj Hospital from its beginning and the establishment of the first medical school in Thailand. Equipped with modern techniques, the room “SyamrathVaidyasastra” shows humans’ illnesses and the wonder of their bodies along with the cause of sickness. In this room, several concepts are presented via the use of human anatomy model, notably the paper-pulp “Human Anatomy Model” showing the way to cure sickness and the “Analysis Model” imitating the examination room. The floor also comes with other sections such as the “Mock-up Operation” room showing the traditional operation with knowledge on equipment and staff working in the operation room and the “Wonders of Human’s Body” room presenting medical difference from the eyes of western and traditional Thai doctors. A model of Thai herb store “Osot Wattana” is also housed here.

Second Building: This part is Thonburi Hall, used for temporary exhibition, meeting, seminar or special activities.

Third Building: This area presents the history of Bangkok Noi Community and the model of the revered monk “Somdet Phra Buddhacarya” (To Brahmaranmsi), former abbott of Rakhang Khositaram Temple. Also, the exhibition “Lifestyle of Bangkok Noi People” with model of local theatre, shops and restaurants can greatly depict the lifestyle of those living along the banks of Bangkok Noi canal in the old days. The gigantic, 24-meter “Ancient Boat” made from wood is also showcased here. It is considered the country’s biggest wood boat ever found in this area.
