Sinop Castle, Sinop, Turkey 

Firstly, It is thought to have been made by immigrants who came from Miletus in the nineteenth century and settled in Sinop and established a colony. BC VII. The citadel of the castle destroyed by the Kimmer attacks in the nineteenth century Pontic rulers. It was repaired during the Mithridate period and the castle was expanded to its present borders. During the Romans and Byzantines period, the castle was constantly repaired and in 1214 and 1261 it was passed by the Seljuks. During this period, an inner castle was built to reinforce the defense of the fortress.

Sinop city walls completely enclose the narrowest part of the half island. The north walls are 1,800 meters, the south walls are 400 meters, the eastern walls are 500 meters and the west walls are 273 meters long. The thickness of the ramparts varies between 3-8 meters in height and reaches up to 30 meters.

As Evliya Çelebi Travels, Kumkapi, Tersanekapi, Yenicekapi, Tannery Door, Guild Gate and Sea Gate are mentioned as entrance doors. Today only Kumkapı and Guild Gate are standing out from these doors.

The north walls are very worn by the influence of the sea and in order to protect these walls from the effects of waves, Kumkapi was built as a breakwater starting from around the bazaar and extending towards the direction of the bazaar.
