Shinas Fortress, Shinas, Al Batinah Governorate‎, Oman

Shinas Castle lies in a quiet town of the same name, in the Al Batinah North Governorate in Oman.

Shinas Castle was built around 1800. At that time the town of Shinas was allied with the Persians and quite separate from the rest of Oman. They also fought against British shipping in the Gulf together with the Ras Al Khaimah Qasimi tribe. The Birtish and Omanis retaliated and in 1810 the castle was sacked and forced to surrender. I don’t have any other historical information about it. If you know more; please mail me.

The castle has a rectangular ground plan with 4 round towers at its corners. It lacks a gate building.
